Which One Are You?
Over the course of teaching I have come to realize that there are two kinds of students: those who train, and those who come to class. Which one are you?
Do you show up a little early to get ready and prepare, or do you show up halfway through the warmup?
Do you actually warm up and prepare your body to do work, or do you stand around waiting for the stretching sequence?
Do you completely immerse yourself in a round of padwork and put forth 100% of your effort to practice your tools to the best of your ability, or do you watch the clock to stall a bit waiting for the round to be over?
Do you practice your technique over and over, constantly making adjustments to make it better, or do you try it a few times, figure you've got it, and move on to something else?
Do you help your partner by feeding them correctly and taking falls willingly, or do you zone out while waiting for your turn?
